In the Footsteps of the Wildmannli
Hike to the Wildmannlisloch in Toggenburg: follow the hiking trail to the mysterious cave at Selun and immerse yourself in the world of the ‘Wildmannli’. The family-friendly route from Alp Sellamatt combines nature experience, legend and fascinating views of the Churfirsten - an ideal excursion destination for young and old.

Explore the 150 metre long and legendary cave on the northern slope of the Selun - the Wildmannlisloch.
After starting at Alp Sellamatt, follow the beautiful hiking trail westwards, past cows and pine forests until you reach the Thurtalerstofel. From there you have a wonderful view across the Toggenburg valley as far as the Speer. The trail then leads you closer and closer to the Churfirsten peaks to Selun, where the karst cave is located. The cave is a welcome place to cool off, especially on hot days.
In the past, bears used to hibernate here. In the 1820s, a young man who had probably lived in the cave for some time was found by a shepherd on the Selun Alp. Although he was given the name Johannes Seluner in the village, he remained the ‘Wildmannli’ for many.
On this hike named after him, young and old follow in the footsteps of the erratic boulder. At the entrance to the cave, a plaque tells you more about him, the cave and the existing legends, before you make your way back via Schribersboden to Zinggen and Alp Sellamatt. During the entire hike, you will be able to admire the beauty of Alp Sellamatt and the surrounding mountains.
