Through the Gluristal to the summit

Two Churfirsten peaks in one day: from Alp Sellamatt through the Gluristal valley to Hinterrugg and on to Chäserrugg - a varied route with quiet valleys, steep paths and impressive panoramic views over Lake Walen. Ideal for sporty day trips in eastern Switzerland.

Like the athletic trail, this route also leads over the Hinterrugg to the Chäserrugg, although not directly, instead through the quiet Gluristal valley and over the scenic western flank of the Hinterrugg - a diversion that is well worth it!

From Alp Sellamatt, the trail leads you to Unterruestel, where you have two options: You can either hike on to Oberruestel and then into the Gluristal or follow the path to Hinterlücheren, which also takes you into the Gluristal. The variant via Hinterlücheren is only recommended after a longer dry phase, as otherwise the path quickly becomes muddy and slippery.
At the end of the Gluristal valley, follow the mountain hiking trail up the stubborn slope over a few hairpin bends to reach the highest of the seven Churfirsten peaks, the Hinterrugg. Here you have a fascinating view of Lake Walen and the surrounding mountains.

After a few steps, you reach the Chäserrugg via the connecting ridge and are welcomed in the summit building by Herzog & de Meuron with a sophisticated restaurant.
