The Classic
From Iltios to Chäserrugg - ‘The Classic’ is a varied hiking route with an ascent of around three hours and spectacular views of the Churfirsten, Rhine Valley and Lake Constance. Perfect for anyone looking for an active day trip in the alpine mountains.

Climb to the summit and enjoy the breathtaking view! From Unterwasser to Iltios, you can comfortably climb the first 400 metres in altitude on the funicular railway. The ‘Classic’ hiking route then starts there and takes you to the summit of the Chäserrugg in the following three hours.
After starting at the Iltios mountain restaurant, follow the hiking trail across the green meadows to the Stöfeli mountain inn. The middle station of the Stöfeli cable car, designed by architects Herzog & de Meuron, is located here. Next to the middle station, the path leads up a staircase-like rock formation and the view wanders sideways over the striking Churfirsten peaks. Once you have completed this section, the most strenuous of the route, you reach the broad ridge of the Chäserrugg. Now the path winds its way over the ridge, always with a slight incline, and you can enjoy the view of the Rhine Valley and as far as Lake Constance. The destination is soon in sight and the summit building by Herzog & de Meuron complements the view. Although you will certainly feel your legs on the last few metres, the panorama at the summit will reward you and the south-facing terrace at the summit restaurant is the perfect place for a well-earned refreshment.
