After taking the gondola chairlift from Alt St. Johann to Alp Sellamatt, follow the hiking trail to Underruestel. On this section you have a perfect view of the Churfirsten and the long ridge of the Chäserrugg. The route now takes you on a gentle ascent towards Schwiloch through the shady forest. Here, nature surrounds you with natural tranquillity and, especially in summer, this hike is very pleasant even on hot days. After a short, somewhat steeper ascent, you arrive at the Stöfeli mountain inn, where a breathtaking panorama of the Alpstein and the valleys opens up before you. The middle station of the Stöfeli cable car, designed and planned by Herzog & de Meuron, is located at the same altitude.

After a breather, you hike down over the Surenboden towards Iltios. Along the way, you will pass typical Alpine scenery and always have an impressive panorama in front of you. Your destination, the Iltios mountain restaurant, is soon in sight during the last passage and awaits you with its sun terrace and local dishes. From here, the new funicular railway will take you to Unterwasser.
